T5W- Favourite Angsty Romances

Hey guys, it's time for another Top 5 Wednesday! If you don't know what this is, it's a weekly meme where you choose your top 5 relating to a certain topic, usually bookish related. I'll leave the link to the Goodreads group here as that will definitely explain it better than I can.

This weeks theme is: favourite angsty romances!

I did struggle a bit with this one as I didn't really know what constituted as 'angsty' so I did a bit of research and am using my favourite books from a Goodreads list of 'angsty books'. So if you see any of these and don't agree that they are angsty, that's fine, they were just on a list on Goodreads as I didn't fully understand what it meant.

1. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Some people really love this book and other people really hate it and are just not a fan of John Green in general, but I am one of those people who adore his work, even if it is quite cheesy and cliche at times. This is one of my least favourite of his books but I still love it and the relationship between Gus and Hazel is full of fun and happiness but also anxiety and fear at what could eventually happen to one/both of them. It's heartbreakingly sad, even my mother cried at this book.

2. Divergent by Veronica Roth

I have only read the first book is this series but it's one of my favourite books and Tris and Four are part of the reason for that. They just work so well together, and Four is one of those handsome brooding characters that just make you swoon.

3. Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L.James

This one is pretty obvious as to why it's angsty, it's such a messed up and complicated relationship but I love Ana and Christian together and a lot of people hate this book but I really enjoyed the plot and the characters and seeing them grow together.

4. Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

Probably the most messed up and controversial romance I've ever read about, and even though I know it is so so wrong and is deemed pretty much illegal in a lot of places, Maya and Lochan's relationship is supportive and loyal and just pretty much amazing. The book was heartbreaking but these two characters have one of the most passionate relationships I've ever read about.

5. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

The most obvious of angsty relationships but definitely one of my favourites. Wuthering Heights was the first book I ever remember loving, and I've re-read it so many times because of this. I'm not a huge fan of classics, I struggle to get into the writing of it since it's so old-fashioned but I adore this. Heathcliff and Cathy have a bloody terrible relationship. It's awful, and controlling and violent but they love each other as much as two people possibly could.

That's it for this week's top 5 Wednesday, what made your list this week? Let me know in the comments below!

  2. I totally forgot about Forbidden! It's so dark and full of angst (sometimes even too much, which is why I didn't like this book so much), but they're also really care about each other! It's so sad and frustrating to read.
