Book Travelling Thursdays #01

Hi guys!

I recently joined a group on Goodreads which was made by a lovely girl named Catia, and it involves a similar concept to Top 5 Wednesdays where each week we make a post surrounding a different topic.

I really wanted to join in with this particular challenge as it involves talking about book covers which is something I absolutely love to do.

I won't try to explain how this works as I know I'll do a terrible job but if you're interested, I'll leave the link to the Goodreads group here.

This weeks theme is: With A New Year Come New Books! (Choose your first read of the year.)

The first book I read this year was Side Effects by Jennifer M.Barry which I have a review for if you're interested in that.

I didn't even know this was the original cover until searching about for this challenge but this was the cover when the book was first published in 2011. I absolutely hate it. I'll go into further detail about why when I get to the 'least favourite covers' section, but god it's awful and I'm happy I don't have this edition.

Favourite cover:
11964742

This is the edition of the book that I own and I love it. The colours are really simple, the black and white is minimalistic and the use of only one pill being in a bright bold colour shows its importance. I love how the title of the book is shown on a label of a pill bottle and that the title almost gives off a blurry 3D effect. I think it fits with the plot of the book perfectly and shows what the book involves.

Right, I'm now going to have a rant about why I hate this cover so much. Is it just me, or does this look like it could be the poster for some 1980's film like The Breakfast Club? The book isn't set in the past, it's a modern day book so why does it look so old fashioned? It just appears really low budget and it would probably have prevented me picking up the book and reading the blurb, which would have been a shame as it's a fantastic book. The title being repeated but blurred out behind the main one just looks tacky.

That's all for this weeks BTT! Hope you enjoyed.
