Hey guys, it's time for another Top 5 Wednesday! If you don't know what this is, it's a weekly meme where you choose your top 5 relating to a certain topic, usually bookish related. I'll leave the link to the Goodreads page here as that will definitely explain it better than I can!
This weeks theme is: favourite sci-fi or fantasy books!
I'm not a huge reader of fantasy books as I usually read those cutesy summer contemporarys (all year round) but the fantasy books I have read have been so amazing so I'll have to make sure I carry on reading them this year! Here are my favourite 5 fantasy and sci-fi books.
1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is probably my favourite book of all time and I've talked about it on here before so I'm sure none of you are surprised this is the top of this weeks list. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this book, my word it's fabulous. It's full of magic, and friendship and mystery. I need to re-read it again soon because it gave me so many happy thoughts when I was reading it.
2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J.Maas
Okay so I still haven't read A Court of Mist and Fury yet and I have no idea why because I adored the first book, it was my favourite book of 2015. But basically this book was so en-captivating and such a fast paced read. I love the world within this story and how each court was so unique and different. How can you hate a book about faeries really though, especially gorgeous dark faeries like Rhysand.
3. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Again I haven't read the rest of the series yet and I don't know why because this book was so good! This was probably the first fantasy book I ever read, and I'd always been skeptical before as I'm more of a cutesy contemporary kinda girl. I'd heard so many great things about this though and I wanted to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. This is a retelling of Cinderella, but a sci-fi version and if that doesn't sell it to you, I don't know what will.
4. The Selection by Kiera Cass
I didn't know whether this classed as fantasy or not but I really loved this book and it involves a dystopian like world with princes and rebels so I just put it on the list anyway. This is essentially a fantasy reality tv like book where girls from different castes compete to win the prince's heart. Again I haven't read the rest of the series but hope to really soon because I enjoyed this book so much and the characters were amazingly developed throughout too.
5. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Lastly, Divergent. I'm sure all of you know what Divergent is about but if you don't, the world in this book has five factions you can be in, each with a different main personality trait it focuses on. You take a test to determine which faction you should be in, but on rare occasions, it can't decide and this causes huge problems within the society. I love how conformity and politics subtlety play a huge role in this but not in a boring kind of way, in a really engaging and eye opening way. Plus the romance between Tris and Four is the cutest thing ever.
What are your favourite fantasy or sci-fi books? Let me know in the comments!
I was just thinking about ordering "The night circus" just because it seems like a mysterious and enjoyable adventure. I've read The Selection and it was cool except the love drama and the needless triangle. Great list. Here is mine: Top 5 Wednesday
